5 current WWE Superstars who need a character change
For any superstar to be successful in WWE, there are three aspects of vital importance: performance, stamina, and character.
While performance and stamina are wrestling attributes, the character defines a superstar’s on-screen persona, which can either be passionately cheered or booed by the WWE Universe.
Some WWE Superstars reinvented their characters beautifully over the years with none better than The Undertaker, who transitioned effortlessly from The Phenom to the American Badass and back to the Deadman avatar.
If we talk about wrestlers of the current generation, one doesn’t need to go beyond Roman Reigns. The reigning Universal Champion made a 180 shift from a babyface to one of the biggest heels in the business as The Tribal Chief.
That said, in this article, we look at 5 superstars on the current WWE roster who need a character change to keep their relevance in the business.
#5. WWE Superstar – Jeff Hardy
Jeff Hardy, since losing to Damian Priest for the United States Championship a few weeks back on RAW, hasn’t had a noteworthy storyline.
Despite his attempt to put over former NXT Superstar Austin Theory on the red brand, the Charismatic Enigma hasn’t gained traction with the WWE Universe.
Jeff has now moved to SmackDown and desperately needs to reinvent his character on the blue brand.
We talk about his upcoming return to #SmackDown, landscaping, raver pants, starting out as a "jobber," the Undertaker ladder match and more!

In a recent interview on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, the WWE legend teased a character change:
“I think there’s something that I have to figure out as well and is kind of needed because I don’t know how much longer I’m going to be wrestling,” Jeff Hardy revealed. “Almost like a darker side of Jeff Hardy, I think, needs to come out. I haven’t figured it out yet, but I’ve had these crazy ideas. I wrote down a few of them. It’s my time to focus more on the character stuff instead of the high flying moves, the TLC matches, and all of that stuff. I think there’s something that’s waiting to be unleashed within me,” added Jeff Hardy.
The WWE Universe will surely hope to see a new avatar of Jeff as he gets ready to start his journey on SmackDown.
#4. WWE Superstar – Asuka
Since her unsuccessful attempt at winning the Money in the Bank contract back in July, Asuka has not appeared on WWE TV.
The former three-time Women’s Champion recently uploaded a photo on social media seemingly teasing a character change. The photo depicted her on a poster of the hit television series Breaking Bad alongside the main character of the show, Heisenberg (Walter White).

The photo skewed towards Asuka looking at returning as a heel in WWE, a timeline of which is still unknown. While the WWE website features her as a RAW superstar, it still needs to be seen which brand she will appear on when ready for in-ring action.
#3. WWE Superstar – Eva Marie

Eva Marie, in her most recent heel avatar, has not gained traction with the WWE Universe.
The only high point of this character was the introduction of her protege, Doudrop, who received a passionate cheer from the fans and is now in the Queen’s Crown Tournament final set for Crown Jewel.
Eva was last seen in action on the September 27 episode of RAW when she was brutalized by Shayna Baszler. Marie was not part of the recent WWE Draft with no clear indication of when she will be back.
Having said this, when Eva Marie does make her return, she can look at becoming a babyface. Her in-ring career will surely get a massive boost.
#2. WWE Superstar – Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss has not been part of WWE programming since her loss to RAW Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair at Extreme Rules.
The Five Feet of Fury teased an interesting character change in her latest tweet. Bliss might ditch her spooky persona when she returns to the squared circle after her sinus surgery.
A babyface turn with Bliss in her old character will certainly be a treat for her fans.
#1. WWE Superstar – Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens has been in a mid-card storyline feuding with Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss on SmackDown. A star of his caliber certainly deserves more.
KO is now drafted to the red brand. WWE, on the latest episode of RAW teased a video that showed they might be giving the former Universal Champion a character reset.

Kevin is a natural heel, and WWE should look to build on this persona to give him ascendency on the red brand, which he rightfully deserves.
Vince Russo thinks that Eva Marie’s stock went down after returning to WWE. Click here for more.
