5 things WWE SmackDown got right this week: Paul Heyman kneels before Roman Reigns; Edge destroys Seth Rollins

The King of the Ring and Queen’s Crown tournaments took off on WWE SmackDown this week. Rey Mysterio and Sami Zayn competed in the first KOTR match, while Finn Balor and Cesaro later competed in the second contest.

However, the Queen’s Crown tournament got little time on this week’s SmackDown. Carmella surprisingly defeated Liv Morgan after a short contest. On the other hand, Zelina Vega took down former NXT UK Women’s Champion Toni Storm.

Meanwhile, Sonya Deville announced that she would take on Naomi in a match on next week’s SmackDown. It will be Deville’s first match back in the ring in a long time.

Roman Reigns demanded some answers from Paul Heyman on SmackDown. Edge and Seth Rollins also wrote another chapter in their rivalry before Crown Jewel.

Take a look at the five things WWE got right on SmackDown this Friday night-

#5. Bianca Belair showcased her strength on WWE SmackDown

Sasha Banks defeated Bianca Belair on WWE SmackDown last week after interference from Becky Lynch. This week, the three women were booked for a contract signing segment for their match at Crown Jewel.

Bianca Belair entered the ring for the contract signing while Becky Lynch had her table on the ramp. Sasha Banks stood on the announce table as Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville tried to keep everything under control.

A war of words between the three women led to a brawl in the center of the SmackDown ring. Belair showcased her strength and lifted both women upon her shoulders for the KOD.

Sasha Banks managed to slip out, but Belair threw her on the table and then hit the KOD on The Man through Banks and the table.

WWE put over The EST over this time around. All three women have had their moments to shine and have hyped the SmackDown Women’s Championship match at Crown Jewel.

Hopefully, WWE will allow the women enough time to put on a great show in front of the Saudi Arabian crowd.

#4. Sami Zayn progressed on the King in the Ring tournament on WWE SmackDown

Rey Mysterio and Sami Zayn competed in the first match of the King of the Ring tournament on WWE SmackDown. Before the match, Dominik Mysterio decided to stay at the back while his father went out alone to take on The Conspiracy Theorist.

Zayn attacked Rey from the opening bell and hit a powerbomb early to nearly pick up the win. He dominated Rey until Dominik came out in support of his father.

Rey hit Code Red to take control of the match for some time before setting up the 619. As Rey ran for his finisher, The Great Liberator ducked and hit the Blue Thunder Bomb. Dominik got involved when Zayn tried to cheat by pulling down the turnbuckle.

Rey told his son to go backstage again, and the distraction allowed Zayn to roll up Rey for the win. The match was good and allowed both men some time to hit some good moves.

SmackDown is doing well to build more tension between The Mysterios. Meanwhile, it was good to see Sami Zayn pick up a win to help him get a push on SmackDown. He could turn out to be a fantastic King of the Ring if given a chance.

#3. Finn Balor defeated Cesaro in WWE’s King of the Ring tournament

The final match of WWE SmackDown saw Finn Balor and Cesaro compete as part of the King of the Ring Tournament. It was odd seeing two babyfaces compete after failing to win the Universal Championship this year.

Balor tried to take his opponent with offense until Cesaro sent him outside the ring with a big uppercut. The Swiss Superman strongly dominated the bout until Balor bounced back with a Slingblade.

Balor prepared to hit the Coup de Grace, but Cesaro jumped up and hit a huge superplex off the top rope, followed by a crossface. The Prince managed to break free and sent Cesaro into the ring post.

A shotgun dropkick helped The Prince set up the Coup de Grace for the win. Both men deserved to progress in the King of the Ring tournament, but SmackDown could only afford to push one forward.

Balor has the momentum to win the tournament at Crown Jewel. WWE will be looking for a big name to take home the crown, and The Prince could become The King at the show.

#2. Roman Reigns forced the truth out of Paul Heyman at WWE SmackDown

It was time for acknowledgment on WWE SmackDown as Roman Reigns entered the building with The Usos and Paul Heyman. Last week, Brock Lesnar interrupted Roman’s promo and took down the entire Bloodline.

The Tribal Chief praised Paul Heyman for getting The Usos to SmackDown. However, he wanted to get the “truth” out of his Special Counsel. He wanted to know if Heyman helped Brock Lesnar become a free agent in WWE.

Heyman tried to play safe and told Roman that Lesnar was trying to trick him. He said that he was only loyal to The Bloodline on SmackDown.

The Head of the Table then demanded Heyman tell Lesnar that the latter would lose at Crown Jewel. Reigns promised to protect Paul if something happened to him.

Reigns’ Special Counsel did that. Additionally, he fell to his knees and handed the Universal Championship to The Head of the Table. WWE is doing exceptionally well with this storyline.

Roman and Paul’s partnership has exceeded expectations, but it could come to an end very soon. The Beast Incarnate looks like the biggest threat to the Universal Champion. It will be interesting to see if he can dethrone The Tribal Chief at Crown Jewel.

#1. Edge and Seth Rollins booked their date for Crown Jewel on WWE SmackDown

Seth Rollins further built his rivalry with Edge on WWE SmackDown. The Visionary of Drip denied that he had gone too far by invading Edge’s house last week.

He asked the Hall of Famer to answer his challenge to another match or face the consequences. He also told Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce that he would cause problems for the Blue Brand if Edge did not show up by the end of the night.

Later on, Rollins continued to taunt The Rated-R Superstar and called him a coward. The big screen showed Edge arriving and marching towards the SmackDown ring.

The Drip King ran out and got a steel chair but took a spear right away. Edge threw him into the steel steps and got hold of the metal rod from the chair. Rollins escaped before the Rated-R Superstar could lock in the crossface.

Edge grabbed a microphone and named the stipulation for their final match at Crown Jewel: Hell in a Cell!

Both have done well to build their grudge rivalry. Crown Jewel is already loaded with some big matches, and this one could be the cherry on top.
