Riddle Believes He Has Backstage Heat Due To The ‘Old School Mentality’ Of His Main Roster Colleagues
WWE Raw Superstar Matt Riddle thinks the ‘old school mentality of some of his main roster colleagues is the reason he generated backstage hear every time he playfully insults a fellow member of the WWE roster.
In case you missed it, Riddle recently revealed that he generated some backstage heat after making some disrespectful remarks about WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns during an interview with Bleacher Report last month. Riddle’s trash talk came off the back of Roman’s recent proclamation that he’s responsible for the fact that this year’s SummerSlam was the most-watched SummerSlam in the history of the event. “Legitimate needle moving,” Reigns tweeted shortly after the numbers were announced. In the aforementioned Bleacher Report interview, Riddle called into question Roman’s claims that he’s a needle mover, and said he could beat the Reigns star in a real fight.
“No disrespect to Roman, he seems like a swell fella, but at the same time, it’s like when people say they’re a good parent,” Riddle said. “You know what? If you were a good parent, your kids would be telling you you’re a good parent. When he’s saying ‘Acknowledge me’ or ‘I move the needle,’ no, you don’t. You’re related to The Rock. Shut up. Like, I’m not impressed, I can beat you up in a real fight. So, shut your mouth,” he added.
It seemed as though the outspoken Superstar was just fooling around, or perhaps attempting to lay the groundwork for a potential feud with Reigns in the future. Either way, his comments didn’t sit well with some of his colleagues, which he touched in during a recent appearance on Ryan Satin’s Out Of Character show.
“I’d say the biggest lessons are this is entertainment, and maybe don’t talk too much trash,” one-half of the WWE Raw Tag Team Champions said. “I wouldn’t say I got in trouble, but people aren’t happy when I say certain things. And I’ll say this; it’s not old school, but there’s this slight old school mentality on the main roster rather than many other companies or the indies, where it’s like you’ve got to watch what you say and be super respectful all the time. I try to be 100% of the time.”
It’s not the first time that Riddle has run his mouth off at a more senior Superstar. As you might recall, the Original Bro had some awkward backstage encounters with Goldberg after calling the WWE Hall Of Famer out on multiple occasions.
