AEW Working Towards Jon Moxley vs. Nick Gage Match [Theory]

AEW and crossover action seem to go hand–in-hand these days. So, it should come as no surprise that AEW might be working on something with GCW champion, and Dark Side of the Ring subject Nick Gage.

It’s not likely Gage gets signed to an AEW contract, but a one-off match with Jon Moxley doesn’t seem like too unrealistic an option after the events that took place this weekend. While the short-term plans for Moxley in AEW seem to be for he and his good buddy Eddie Kingston to challenge The Young Bucks for the All Elite Tag titles at Double or Nothing on May 30, Moxley attacked Gage in Las Vegas, setting the stage for a future battle between the two.

Gage had just retained the GCW World Championship in a match over AJ Gray. That’s when Moxley appeared and challenged Gage, the two brawling out of the arena and then, eventually into the streets of Las Vegas.

This might lead to nothing and perhaps Moxley is just having a little fun. That said, it shouldn’t come as a shock if AEW is looking to capitalize on the popularity of the Dark Side of the Ring episode that featured Gage this past week. He’s a popular figure in the wrestling industry right now.

Moxley and Gage have a storied history. Moxley was part of the Dark Side of the Ring documentary and their in-ring battles date way back to the late 2000s-early 2010s, particularly in Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW). Moxley is no stranger to deathmatches, where he really cut his teeth before joining WWE.

This Match Might Not Be In AEW

It’s possible that this match — if one takes place — won’t be in AEW. Moxley seems to have the freedom to wrestle in and out of AEW as long as it doesn’t interfere with his AEW commitments.

Still, it seems to make a lot of sense that Gage might show up at Double or Nothing to either help Moxley, or cost him the chance to win the tag team titles.
